Trade and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt has claimed that the media's obsession with issues such as the Steelgate affair is creating a negative impression of businesspeople.

"What does it say to young people considering their future when there is a continuous suggestion that business people who talk to politicians must be up to no good?" she told business leaders last night.
