There is no bar on Peter Mandelson returning once again to the cabinet, Labour chairman Charles Clarke said yesterday.

Clarke added that if the prime minister believed Mandelson would be a good addition to the team, the party would have no great difficulty with it. In a Guardian interview, Clarke reveals that he is working with his Tory counterpart David Davis to increase public "respect" for MPs.
