The doctor who looked after the daughter of Gordon and Sarah Brown has saluted their courage as they watched Jennifer lose her fight for life.

Dr Ian Laing said that baby Jennifer was the victim of a "very rare series of events" and said of the Browns: "All the staff who looked after Jennifer were touched by their courage."

The couple issued a short statement yesterday thanking the hospital staff for taking care of their daughter.
