Letwin signals shift on gay rights
The shadow home secretary, Oliver Letwin, has shifted Tory policy on gays and lesbians by calling for long-term same-sex couples to be given certain legal rights.
He said that same-sex couples should be given rights on issues such as tenancy but stopped short of calling for gay partnerships to be given equal status to married heterosexuals.
