Heath stands by Ulster internment

Former prime minister Sir Edward Heath yesterday stood by his decision to introduce internment in Northern Ireland in 1971. He was speaking after newly released Cabinet papers showed the army commander in Ulster at the time warned the move would have a "harmful effect" on the security situation.
