EU foreign ministers yesterday agreed to impose targeted sanctions against Robert Mugabe's regime unless it meets several demands by the weekend.

The ministers said they would give the Zimbabwean leader a last chance to halt political violence, reinstate the rule of law and lift restrictions on the media.

Unless Mugabe meets the demands, the EU will impose a travel ban and target the funds and investments held by Mugabe and his supporters held in the EU.
