Welsh Archbishop leads race
A Times survey of General Synod members show a clear lead for the Archbishop of Wales, Rowan Williams, in the contest to become Archbishop of Canterbury.
The newspaper's poll of 42 per cent of the synod's membership gave the Welsh Archbishop - a liberal - 29 per cent over the more conservative Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali's 19 per cent.
