Sir Nigel Wicks has announced that the committee on standards in public life is set to conduct a wide-ranging inquiry into the principle of self-regulation in the House of Commons.

The inquiry could lead to MPs facing criminal charges if they are found to be in breach of the Commons rules, claims Trevor Kavanagh.
