Immigration will boost population
The British population is likely to increase from 59.8 million in 2000 to nearly 65 million by 2025, mainly due to an increase in inward migration, according to a report by the Office for National Statistics. The forecasts are prepared by the government to assist future policy-making in areas such as health, benefits and pensions.
