CBI asks Brown to prepare for the worst

Britain's bosses yesterday called on the chancellor to prepare a package of emergency tax measures to help business if the economy suffers a sharp downturn before the March budget.

CBI director general Digby Jones said he would encourage Gordon Brown to introduce "specific targeted help" for the worst performing sectors in the next budget.
