A leaked Liberal Democrat strategy document reveals that Charles Kennedy intends to label Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith "useless".

In addition to showing that the Lib Dem leader is worried about being perceived as the prime minister's "poodle", the document, written by the party's campaign committee, indicates that the Lib Dems are keen to replace the Tories as the real opposition to the government.

The document says of Duncan Smith: "The truth is he's just not very good, he hasn't got it...and that's the line we should be taking."
