Trade and industry secretary, Patricia Hewitt, launches a major DTI shake-up today.

Following a six month review of the department's structure, three prominent business figures are to brought on to a seven member strategy board in the biggest DTI shake up since 1983.

Hewitt told the FT that her department had suffered form a "lack of focus, confusion for the customer, too many schemes and inadequate leadership across Whitehall".
