McLeish faces resignation calls over expenses 'muddle'
Scotland's first minister Henry McLeish is facing renewed demands for his resignation following an offer to pay back £36,000 in expenses he claimed from the Commons to finance his constituency office.
McLeish's apology followed the revelation that for 14 years he failed to register with the Commons authorities that he was sub-letting his office. He claimed it was a "muddle" rather than a "fiddle" and said the money raised had paid for office expenses such as stationary and telephone calls.
However, the first minister is still facing opposition calls to resign and will have to face down MSPs during a debate on the affair in the Scottish parliament tomorrow.
