Tighter security around the Eurotunnel complex in France has cut the number of asylum seekers reaching the UK through the tunnel by more than half.

Numbers have fallen from more than 20 a day in August to fewer than 10 a day over the last month. But the Red Cross predicted that refugees fleeing Afghanistan could soon swell the numbers.
