CBI attacks competition law shake-up

The CBI has criticised planned government changes to competition laws.

The bosses organisation is concerned that allowing consumer organisations the right to make representations on behalf of consumers generally, rather than individuals who had actually been harmed, could be an incentive for disruptive litigation.

Business leaders also expressed doubts over the new criminal penalties for those involved in cartels and the wider brief of the Office of Fair Trading to investigate conditions in any market sector.
