Thatcher's attack angers British muslims

Baroness Thatcher has spoken out against the response of British muslim leaders to the terrorist attacks on America.

Speaking to today's Times, she said: "The people who brought down those towers were muslims and muslims must stand up and say that that is not the way of Islam. I have not heard enough condemnation from muslim priests."

In response, British muslim leaders argued that her remarks were ill-informed, but also blamed the media for not reporting the views of the majority of moderate muslims.

Ghayasuddin Siddiqui, leader of the Muslim parliament, said Thatcher is "completely out of touch".

The Church of England added its voice to the chorus of response by saying that it believed that there had been a "rapid and vocal" condemnation by muslim leaders. The Conservative Party declined to comment.
