Groups protesting against genetically modified crops have welcomed yesterday's High Court ruling which will make the prosecution of individuals who destroy plantings of the controversial crops more difficult.

The court ruled that the charge of aggravated trespass, which had been made against some protestors, could only be used if there was someone working the land at the time of the protest who could be intimidated.
