Bush unveils new economic package
President Bush used his second visit to New York since the September 11 attacks to announce a $60-75 billion recovery package.
Telling business leaders in City Hall that the attacks "shocked our economy just like it shocked the conscience of our nation" the package comes on top of a $40 billion plan from Congress and $15 billion for airline aid.
Bush said that "we've got to make sure that demand for US products stays strong". He added that he would also extend unemployment benefits at least 13 weeks beyond the 26-week maximum and more than double the $200 million a year emergency grant programme.
