DTI too 'weak and vague' to back business

The CBI has warned ministers that business competitiveness is being damaged because the Department of Trade and Industry is too weak to take on the Treasury.

In a letter to trade and industry secretary, Patricia Hewitt, British bosses say the DTI's brief is "vague and without content" and has strictures that "mitigate against effective understanding of the competitiveness agenda".
