Spanish PM to call for terrorism crackdown

The Spanish prime minister, Jose Maria Aznar, will call for EU governments to introduce tougher measuers to fight terrorism at this Friday's summit.

He wants to see faster extradition processes, greater controls on the movement of foreigners and closer relations between member states' intelligence services.

Spain has become one of the most vocal supporters of the US since last week's terror attacks.

His call came as Britain put forward new measures aimed at tracking the flow of funds used to finance terrorism.

Britain is also spearheading news attempts to clamp down on terror groups. David Blunkett will call on his counterparts from the EU to back new Europe-wide arrest warrants and fast-track extradition laws.
