An ICM poll for the BBC has suggested that more than half of the non-voters at the general election would have supported Tony Blair.

The poll says that only 19 per cent of those who stayed at home on election day said they would have voted Tory, compared to 53 per cent who said they would have voted Labour.

Francis Maude, a close ally of failed Tory leadership contender Michael Portillo, said that the poll's results demonstrated the need for the party to reform "dramatically".
