The health secretary, Alan Milburn, has halted a Feng shui re-organisation of his office fearing that a decision to spend cash on wind chimes rather than waiting lists could become a PR disaster.

Milburn's intervention came after he discovered aides had drafted in Feng shui consultants to come up with proposals about how his office could be re-energised.
