Slowdown hits Brown's spending plans
The economic slowdown could jeopardise Gordon Brown's plans for extra investment in schools, hospitals and transport, new growth figures will indicate today.
Brown's figures were premised on growth of between 2.25 per cent and 2.5 per cent: although analysts predict that growth could now slow to below two per cent - leaving a "black hole" in the chancellor's spending plans.
