TUC chief, John Monks, will today fire a shot across Tony Blair's bows over the issue of public service reform.

Monks will warn that wholesale privatisation of the public sector will raise the spectre of the 1978/79 "winter of discontent".

In a clear warning to Labour, he will say that "nobody will deliver better public services by seeking bruising confrontation".
