Members of the armed forces should be judged on ability alone, defence secretary Geoff Hoon has told the Times.

"I don't believe political correctness fits in with the work of the Ministry of Defence," he said.

Hoon also said he was opposed to disabled people serving in the armed forces when they could not pass the physical tests involved.
