The Countryside Agency warned the government yesterday that radical measures on a British and European level are needed to save the agriculture industry.

"If we are to save agriculture from becoming a sunset agency, we need to take action now," said agency chairman Ewen Cameron.

Local authority led strategies and reform of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy were proposed.
