Government refuses Wembley loan
The government last night turned down a £150 million loan bid from the Football Association to save plans for a national stadium at Wembley.
Downing Street refused the request stating that government was not a "national bank" and insisted that the project remained the FA's responsibility.
A new ministerial group has been set-up to investigate the project, chaired by the home secretary, Jack Straw.
