Greater research role for GM animals

A report published by the Royal Society says that GM animals will play a greater role in medical research.

The number of GM research animals rose by 500,000 in 1999. The use of GM animals in agriculture and food production is unlikely to rise significantly in the next decade.

Professor Ian McConell of Cambridge University has predicted that food from GM animals could be on sale within 10 years.
