US Secretary of State Colin Powell yesterday designated the Real IRA a "foreign terrorist organisation", a move that should see the group's members denied US visas and block their funds and assets. The breakaway republican faction was responsible for the Omagh atrocity in 1998 in which a bomb killed 29 people.
