Express proprietor Richard Desmond could face further investigations into his acquisition of the news titles after one of his editors accused him of reneging on a promise not to interfere in editorial affairs.

The prospect of investigation was raised by Lib Dem media spokesman Norman Baker in a letter to trade secretary Stephen Byers.
