Senior Tories have expressed dismay at William Hague's election strategy according to a report in the Telegraph.

Several big names are thought to be concerned that the Conservatives have focused their campaign too narrowly on keeping the pound, and have not got across their message on health, education and transport.

"The question has always been whether the single currency is going to persuade voters to change their minds," one shadow cabinet member allegedly said.

Other senior figures expressing disquiet include Francis Maude, Archie Norman, David Willetts and Michael Portillo, an ally of whom allegedly said he would have preferred a "more balanced campaign".
