The chancellor, Gordon Brown, and international development secretary, Clare Short, will today renew their challenge to pharmaceutical companies to deliver cheap drugs to the third world.

Labour will call for "deeply discounted" treatments for Aids, malaria and TB to be made available to the world's poorest countries and will pledge £75 million for a $1 billion global drugs fund.
