DTI helps new Robinson probe

A fresh inquiry by the parliamentary standards commissioner, Elizabeth Filkin, into the affairs of the former paymaster general, Geoffrey Robinson, will be told by the DTI where to find information over allegations that he misled MPs about a £200,000 payment form Robert Maxwell.

Trade and Industry secretary, Stephen Byers, announced yesterday that the DTI had provided "sources of information" used during its own inquiry into Maxwell's business empire.
