According to the Telegraph, the education secretary, David Blunkett, has held a leaving party at the DfEE telling fellow ministers its is "time to move on".

Blunkett's friends claim he is sure that he will be promoted to the Home Office after a general election.

The idea horrifies some Labour MPs who see Blunkett as "even more illiberal" than the current home secretary, Jack Straw.
