China has told the US that it will get access to the crew of an EP-3 spy plane forced to make an emergency landing on Hainan island.

The US has issued terse communiqués to China over its failure to allow access to both the plane and the crew. American warships have been ordered to the territory in a cold-war-style stand-off seen as the first test of George W Bush's foreign policy.
