MPs on the Commons science and technology select committee have called on insurance companies to stop using genetic tests to assess customers for two years.

The moratorium, backed by the Department of Health, would allow the scientific relevance of the tests to be examined. The committee also urged the government and insurance industry to "calm public fears about the risk of a genetic underclass".
