Labour strategists fears that Charles Kennedy's soft-line stance on Labour and his "benign" performances at prime minister's question time is throwing away the votes of people who float between the Tories and the Liberal Democrats. They feel that a more combative stance from the Lib Dem leader would pick up more votes and help squeeze the Tory vote.
