Health secretary, Alan Milburn, has challenged the NHS to take on the "genetics revolution" - from laboratory workbench to hospital ward - and ensure that the benefits of scientific breakthroughs are passed on to patients.

He was speaking at the launch of a £30 million five-point plan for NHS genetic services and £10 million in funding to set up four "knowledge parks".
