Millionaire author Robert Harris has been the victim of a crime worthy of one of his own novels.

His home has been swept for bugging devices following a break-in that took place within days of the resignation of his friend Peter Mandelson.

Only the hard-drive from his computer was stolen and the thieves ignored high-value items.

No finger prints were left and The Times speculates that the security services were responsible.
