The Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, has accused the Roman Catholic church of being "hurtful and unhelpful" in its attitude to holy communion. A document prepared three years ago by British and Irish Catholic bishops said Anglican Eucharist services lacked "the authentic full reality of the Eucharistic mystery".
