Peter Mandelson is still striving to restore his reputation and is attempting to secure an acknowledgment that Jack Straw was wrong to accuse him of being "untruthful".

The Telegraph reports that he wants to remain in public life, possibly taking up a position as one of the UK's European commissioners.

Mandelson will give evidence to the inquiry investigating the Hinduja passport affair next week.
