HIV cases reach record high
Britain last year recorded its highest-ever number of new HIV infections although the number of Aids-related deaths dropped as a result of new combination drug therapies.
Some 2,868 HIV cases were reported in 2000, it was revealed yesterday.
The new figures have led to renewed calls for a fresh look at how the "safe sex" message is delivered. Cases of other sexually transmitted diseases are also increasing, the data showed.
