Bonuses to boost staffing in failing schools
ePolitix
The government will today announce plans to give 500 secondary schools in England and Wales an extra £32 million to pay retention bonuses to teaching staff and to attract new teachers in subjects where there is a shortage.
The aim is to help schools which face closure if they do not meet their exam results targets. Teaching unions attacked the scheme, arguing that recruitment problems affected all schools.
