A government-backed survey of the UK motor sport industry has found that it is three times larger than previously thought. Contributing £5 billion a year to the British economy and £2.2 billion to exports, the industry's 2,400 companies employ over 40,000 people. The survey found that the industry faces a major threat from the European Union working hours legislation which "clashes fundamentally with the innovative and entrepreneurial ethos" that has given the sector its world-leading edge.
