Europe - Blair will not give up tax veto
The government will not give up its national veto on taxation or tax fraud, reports suggest. Tony Blair has repeated the UK's position to French prime minister, Lionel Jospin and German chancellor, Gerhard Schroder. The issue is set to be a key battleground at the imminent Nice IGC with attempts by France and the European commission to stop the UK repeating its victory in blocking the controversial withholding tax.
