The European Commission yesterday hailed the EU's Charter of Fundamental Rights as "a major milestone for Europe as a political force." Antonio Vitorino, the Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner said the 54 articles of the rights bill will "mark a turning point in the integration of Europe, moving it away from the essentially economic logic of its origins to become a real political union."
