Unions in the firing line
Aidan Burley has secured an interesting adjournment debate this evening on “funding from the public purse of trade union officials”.
He will no doubt refer to recent Taxpayers Alliance figures that show £67.5m a year is spent in Whitehall, local councils, NHS Trusts and the like on supporting trade union officials, the equivalent of 2,500 full time posts.
Nick Hurd will respond for the government. Perhaps some of Labour’s trade unionists will turn up to argue the case with Burley?
