The tale of Bob Russell's "fantastic tie"

26th October 2011

Colchester MP Bob Russell has been sporting some eye-catching neckwear in recent days.

After being transfixed during a recent committee meeting, we caught up with him to ask the question - where did you get that tie?

From the farmers, was Bob's reply.

It seems that while attending a reception for Anglian farmers last Thursday, at which the pork pies were particularly in demand, Bob spotted that their chairman was wearing a tie decorated with images of pigs, cows, sheep, tractors and other familiar farmyard animals.

"What a fantastic tie," was Bob's response.

A few minutes later he was presented with an identical tie.

Bob has certainly taken a shine to it - he wore it the very next day when he appeared on BBC East.

His wife phoned him immediately after the broadcast.

"Are you wearing that tie for a bet?" She asked.

We are warming to Mrs Russell already - she could be the new Mrs Bone.

Bob adds that other ladies were less critical.

Angela Eagle, shadow leader of the House, mentioned it to Bob in the chamber last week.

"Very impressed with your tie," she said.

No doubt other colleagues will want to express their admiration next time they see Bob wearing his new favourite neckwear.

His tie is nothing compared to the waistcoat he was sporting for today's PMQs.
