Press gallery election results

10th December 2010

The Evening Standard's Joe Murphy has topped the poll in the election for the 2011 press gallery committee.

There were ten places available on the committee and 11 candidates.

The Sunday Mirror's Vincent Moss was nominated but later withdrew from the contest.

It is understood more than 60 members of the press gallery voted using the STV system.

Murphy, the Mail on Sunday's Simon Walters and the Sunday Express' Kirsty Buchanan were all elected in the first round.

Then came ePolitix's Tony Grew, followed by Joe Churcher from PA, David Hencke from Tribune and Simon Mares from ITV.

The final three elected were Tim Castle from Reuters, Adel Darwish from Middle East News and Ian Hernon from the Liverpool Echo.

Rob Gibson from Gallery News was not elected.

The committee will assist the new 2011 office holders.

The BBC's Carolyn Quinn (chairman), The Mirror's Jason Beattie (secretary) and Bloomberg's Rob Hutton (treasurer) were elected unopposed last month.
