Plan to 'rip up' red tape
The government has invited businesses and community groups to help "rip up" some of the UK's 21,000 rules and regulations in a fresh drive to tackle red tape and get rid of "ridiculous" burdens.
David Cameron and Vince Cable have launched a "red tape website challenge", giving firms as well as members of the public a chance to have their say on regulations affecting their business or lives.
They say the aim is to get rid of ones regarded as an "unnecessary burden", and to retain those offering protection.
The announcement comes ahead of today's British Chambers of Commerce annual conference which will see speeches from chancellor George Osborne, communities secretary Eric Pickles , Cable and Labour leader Ed Miliband.
The House of Commons and House of Lords are in recess but today the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority publishes expenses claims processed in November and December 2010.
Also today the public accounts committee publishes a report which warns the BBC needs a "more vigilant approach to value for money" after an IT project intended to make it more efficient ended up costing millions.
